Common Misconceptions About Chiropractic Care & Why They’re False

Safe Chiropractic Care

Anyone who hasn’t visited a chiropractor might make assumptions about the safety and efficacy of chiropractic treatment. There are a lot of myths about chiropractic care online, and it’s easier than you think to become misinformed. Discover the truth behind some of the most common misconceptions about chiropractic care before scheduling an appointment with our Frisco North chiropractor.

Misconception: Chiropractors are Less Educated Than Medical Doctors

Chiropractors undergo the same level of education and training as medical doctors, including four years of undergraduate study and four to six years of postgraduate study. In their final year of study, students complete a clinical internship to receive hands-on experience and training under a licensed chiropractor. Some students elect to also complete a clinical rotation at a hospital or veteran’s clinic. Before they can become licensed as a chiropractor, students must earn a Doctor of Chiropractic degree and pass a series of rigorous examinations administered by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

Misconception: Chiropractic Care is Dangerous & Painful

Chiropractic care is safer and less invasive than most traditional medical treatments. Before a chiropractic treatment method can be used on patients, it must undergo strict evaluation and testing to ensure it is safe and effective. Most chiropractic treatments have also undergone scientific study to rate their efficacy. While chiropractic care does carry some risk, like any other medical treatment, it is overall considered safer than surgery, prescription medications, and invasive procedures.

Misconception: Chiropractors Only Treat Back Pain

Chiropractors practice holistic healthcare. This means that they diagnose and treat conditions related to their patients’ physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health. Our chiropractor can treat back pain, as well as chronic health problems, pre and post-natal care, insomnia, weight gain, headaches and migraines, stress, depression, anxiety, and more.

Misconception: Chiropractic Care Isn’t Safe for Children

Chiropractic care is safe for patients of all ages, from infants to senior citizens. Chiropractic treatment can be especially helpful for student athletes and children who participate in rigorous physical activity like gymnastics, ballet, dance, wrestling, hockey, and figure skating.
